Perseid Meteor Shower of 2012

Friday night I talked to Maynard and told him about the Perseids this weekend.

He went out to watch and called shortly thereafter all excited like a kid at Christmas, "I just saw a huge one, wow! Amazing!"

So I gathered up my camping chair and went to the park. I sat for an hour and saw NOT one single shooting star.

I did see the ISS (International Space Station) though.

So, saturday night we went back out, sat down, looked up, and saw a particularly long, white one right away. But this one was travelling west to east: it wasn't part of the Perseids but a random chance. Cool!

Then I saw one minutes later travelling north east to south west, like a true Perseid.

We saw at least half a dozen shooting stars and a half dozen random satellites travelling south to north (mostly) or north to south.

We even saw the ISS again.

A successful evening.

Maynard didn't see a single meteorite although he saw ISS and a couple satellites.
